Currently in a tough spot against the Timberwolves, LeBron James could see his season end as early as Wednesday. On the other hand, one former player believes he could definitively settle the famous GOAT debate if things go his way.

Sure, he bears some responsibility for how this series has turned against him. LeBron James, for instance, made a few questionable decisions during crunch time in Game 4 between the Lakers and Timberwolves on Sunday. That said, he’s clearly been the best player on his team since the start of the playoffs — and he’s far from finished.

Dwight Howard lashes out about LeBron James

Valuable both offensively and defensively, James is still performing at an elite level at 40 years old. So much so that his teammates still believe in making the playoffs thanks to him. Having played alongside him in Los Angeles, Dwight Howard also seems to hold onto hope. And according to him, this unlikely scenario could even make his former leader the undisputed GOAT. He stated on X:

Dwight Howard: “If LeBron manages to come back from a 3-1 deficit at 40 years old, I don’t want to hear another word about the GOAT debate 🫠”

Without even considering the potential further journey of the Lakers, Howard would automatically crown LeBron as the greatest player of all time if a comeback were to happen.

According to him, there would no longer be any room for debate, as such an achievement would settle the matter once and for all regarding LeBron’s status as the GOAT. This statement obviously caused quite a stir on social media and didn’t go unnoticed by the many worshippers of Michael Jordan. They eagerly took the opportunity to counter the esteemed center’s words using various arguments:

@MLSMoves: Jordan would never have been down 3-1

@StackingWs: Can someone explain how losing 3 out of 4 games and then winning 3 in a row makes someone the GOAT?

@_gpop: The fact that LeBron was down 3-1 at this stage with the supporting cast he has automatically excludes him from the GOAT debate…

@sportsillusions: Just a reminder, Ant won’t let this happen. Wolves in 6.

As for LeBron himself, he likely doesn’t care about any of this. It’s better for him to stay focused on the task at hand, even though the challenge ahead is tough. Even so, the chances of the Lakers pulling off an upset may not be as slim as it seems. In any case, you can count on Howard to send all his support to Bron and his teammates on Wednesday for Game 5.

For Dwight Howard, LeBron James would unquestionably deserve to be considered the GOAT if he managed to lead the Lakers past the Timberwolves. However, his opinion doesn’t seem to be gaining unanimous support online just yet.
