Luka Doncic has a special relationship with both LeBron James and Michael Jordan. He’s a teammate of the former GOAT contender and an ambassador for the latter’s brand. When asked to choose between them, he really struggled.
Luka Doncic’s first few months with the Lakers could end on a rather difficult note. After reaching the Finals for the first time in his career in the spring of 2024, he had hoped to do the same with Los Angeles. Unfortunately, a first-round exit now seems likely. Following the excitement of the trade, some fans are even starting to turn against him.
The Slovenian is being targeted defensively by opponents, and in Game 4 — which could be a turning point in the series — he didn’t live up to expectations. In today’s NBA, offense alone doesn’t win championships. Scoring is important, but defense is what seals the deal. Unless he improves or puts in the necessary effort on that end of the floor, his chances of becoming a champion will remain slim.
Luka Doncic unable to choose between LeBron and Jordan
The good news for the Purple and Gold is that he might be motivated by the desire to deliver one last title to LeBron James. In fact, in a recent interview, he was asked to choose between his teammate and Michael Jordan, who happens to be the head of his shoe brand. Unsurprisingly, Luka Doncic was visibly embarrassed when trying to answer.
Caleb Pressley : I have a sequence dedicated to Slovenia. You’ll have to name the GOAT and the two best players between LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Luka Doncic.
Luka Doncic : Do I have to say who’s who? Nah, I can’t do it! Impossible. Somebody else should do it.
On one side, there’s the teammate he’s been sharing the court with for a few months now. On the other, there’s the man behind Jordan Brand, his sponsor. Luka Doncic couldn’t answer without offending one or the other, so he decided to use a joker. He most likely had a clear answer in mind, but chose to play the diplomatic card instead.
That’s not all — the point guard also shared some interesting thoughts about the City of Angels:
The biggest difference between Los Angeles and Slovenia is the number of people. There are 4 million residents in the city, while Slovenia has 2 million in total. California — I know it’s a state with high taxes. I could see myself playing in a city with no state income tax.
Luka Doncic can hardly choose between LeBron James and Michael Jordan, and we can understand that. However, it’s pretty clear that he prefers to play in a city where there’s no state income tax.
