Insolite – Découvrez un featuring de 2011 entre … Kevin Durant et LeBron James

S’il existe deux milieux du show-business qui possèdent des atomes crochus, c’est bien la NBA et le rap. Entre Shaquille O’Neal, Ron Artest ou plus récemment Iman Shumpert et le très bon Damian Lillard, la Grande Ligue a toujours compté dans ses rangs quelques joueurs capables de poser un couplet sur une instrumentale. Malgré tout ce que cette connexion entre boom-bap et balle orange a pu produire, nous n’avions encore jamais eu le droit à un featuring quintuple champion NBA.

À l’occasion d’une interview de Franky Wahoo accordée à NOISEY (la branche musicale de VICE), l’ancien producteur et ingénieur du rappeur Machine Gun Kelly a révélé que seul Kevin Durant devait normalement entrer dans les Spider Studios de Cleveland pendant le lockout de 2011. C’était sans compter sur le désir de LeBron James d’être présent sur tous les plans, encore plus quand il s’agit d’enregistrer un morceau de rap avec l’un des meilleurs joueurs de la Ligue et ami, dans son Ohio natal.

Franky Wahoo raconte :

LeBron a fini par se pointer, et KD avait des instrumentales sur lesquelles il avait déjà écrit. Quand j’ai su qu’ils allaient faire le morceau, j’étais planté là, à me dire « oh merde ». Parce que la pire chose qui aurait pu arriver à ce projet, c’est que Paul Rich [l’agent de James] veuille l’enterrer.

Le morceau devait même faire partie de la bande son de NBA 2K19, mais après des mois de va-et-vient, rien ne s’est concrétisé.

Dans les grandes lignes, la piste intitulée It Ain’t Easy, détaille les hauts et les bas de la vie quand on est au sommet de la NBA. Montez le volume, parce que c’est KD qui pose les premières phases :

Difficile de dire lequel de ces deux futurs Hall of Famer est le plus à l’aise avec un micro, mais KD possède quand même une longueur d’avance sur ce morceau. Une rencontre au sommet dans les studios, avant un second featuring sous le maillot des Lakers ? L’avenir nous le dire, en attendant, on vous laisse apprécier ce petit bijou.
